Students recording planned fights plague St. Cloud schools, officials say

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — School administrators in Osceola County are cracking down on students they say are planning fights just so they can record them to post on social media.

The most recent video to surface in Osceola County was Wednesday from St. Cloud High School, officials said.

The fight happened toward the end of lunch, a student, who asked not to be identified, said.

“One of the sets of girls, like, body-slammed the other one and another set just punched each other,” the girl said.

In the wake of the fight, administrators started calling students into the school’s office to search their phones for video of the fight, the student claimed.

“If you got called up, I guess they, like, took your phone and went through it,” she said.

Osceola County Schools has a “bring your own device” policy that only allows phones for educational purposes.

“If reasonable belief exists that the student has violated these procedures, or other school or district policies, the student’s device may be inspected and/or confiscated,” the policy says.

District officials did not say if any students’ phones had been searched.

Parents are supposed to go over the policy with their children and have to sign off on it, the district said.
