Man robs Altamonte Springs Subway in Spider-Man mask; may be connected to 7-Eleven robbery

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Altamonte Springs police said they are looking for a man who was caught on surveillance video wearing a Spider-Man mask when he robbed a Subway restaurant late Tuesday night.

The restaurant is on State Road 436, less than a block from the police station.

A clerk sounded an alarm as soon as she could, but the robber was in and out in roughly 60 seconds, investigators said.

Detectives said the robbery may be connected to a 7-Eleven robbery from March 4.

“[There are] many characteristics as to how the robbery was carried out as well as what he is seen wearing here in the video. It matches the video from earlier this month,” said Robert Pelton with the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

The same type of mask was worn in the 7-Eleven robbery, where two men burst through the door, both with masks, but one with the Spider-Man mask.

The clerk was knocked to the ground as they tried to get to the safe, only getting away with money from the cash register.

Police said surveillance video from the Subway robbery shows the masked gunman shove his gun in the woman’s face, while he demanded she empty the cash register.

Only one man robbed the Subway, and because police dogs lost his scent pretty quickly, investigators believe the second man involved in the 7-Eleven robbery may have provided a getaway vehicle.

Police said they are stepping up patrols at businesses in the area while investigators following up on leads.

They said their best evidence is surveillance video that shows the unique Spider-Man mask.
