CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Byers, 86, said she will not let the incident what happened to her slow her down.
“I finally got some rest. I'm feeling much better,” said Byers. “I was able to go to church today for a meeting and help a friend out that's moving.”
Byers said she was getting boxes for that friend from the Walmart when her car was stolen.
Surveillance video shows Byers loading the boxes into her car when the man jumps in and takes off.
“He pushed me aside and slid right in and took off,” she said. “It was just, I don't know the word to say, it was traumatic. Very traumatic.“
Byers said she recognized the thief.
“I don't know if he bumped into me or maybe if he was following me,” Byers said.
Byers’ car was found a short time later in the driveway of a home in the 400 block of North Phelps Avenue in Winter Park.
Her purse, credit cards, cash and a camera were stolen.
“I am so blessed, because monetary things can be replaced. I only had about $40 in my wallet,” said Byers. “It was a God thing. He was watching over me. I'm going to cry, boo, hoo, hoo,” Byers said with a chuckle.
If caught, the man could face charges of carjacking, battery of a person older than 65 and grand theft.
