Convicted felon, sex offender shot during confrontation with deputy

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A man is in critical condition after he was shot by a deputy during a traffic stop in the Indian Point subdivision in Osceola County Sunday.

The deputy was in the middle of arresting Ridge David White, 26, for a probation violation when White fled on foot. The deputy then opened fire on White after a physical altercation occurred, officials said.

"During that traffic stop, he attempted to arrest the suspect for possible drug charges and the suspect fled," said Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said White is a registered felon and sex offender.

Deputy Michael Maccallum was released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

"It's a pretty good neighborhood. We don't get anything happening like this," said neighbor Amy Patterson.

Patterson said she was there as the man was taken to the hospital.

"That's when we started seeing all the cops flying in and the fire trucks flying in, and I saw them put him in the ambulance and I could see the bullet wounds," she said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
