Homeowner fatally shoots burglary suspect

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 20-year-old suspect was fatally shot during a burglary at an Orange County home early Saturday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said they responded to a home on the 2700 block of Elmhurst Circle shortly after 3 a.m after receiving reports of a burglary in progress.

"As we were responding, we learned that a black male was shot inside the residence," Lt. Paul Hopkins, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said.

Investigators said the homeowner, Usaf-Ali Castle, took the burglary suspect's gun and started shooting.

"He dropped the gun. When I picked it up, he separated from my friend and I shot him couple times," Castle said.

The suspect was pronounced deceased inside the home, officials said. He was identified as 20-year-old Clifford Johnson.

At this point, Castle is not facing any charges in connection with the shooting. Anyone with any further information about the incident is asked to call Crimeline.
