ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Suspect at UCF hit student with car, fled, was caught

Law enforcement officers are sounding the all-clear near the University of Central Florida campus in Orange County Friday night after a man hit a UCF student with his car and then ran off.

UCF police have a suspect, who is not a UCF student, in custody.

UCF Orlando campus officials were reporting police activity in and behind Garage G and asking people to avoid the area.

UCF police and the Orange and Seminole County Sheriff's Offices were searching for the suspect in the area of Gemini Boulevard and Alafaya Trail.

UCF spokesperson Chad Binette said UCF police received a call about 8:20 p.m. Friday about a person hit by a car in Garage G.

Multiple calls about the same hit-and-run were received a few minutes later.

The man struck the victim with his car and then hit a wall in Garage G, Binette said.

He reportedly then got out of his car and assaulted the woman on the ground, but a bystander scared him off.

The man ran into the woods near Garage G on West Plaza Drive by the UCF Arena on the north end of campus.

A suspect was arrested by UCF police near Garage G around 9 p.m. Friday.

The victim, who is a UCF student, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The suspect and victim know each other, Binette said.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
