'Tallest bank robber in Volusia County' foiled by his height, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 36-year-old man accused of robbing a SunTrust Bank in Volusia County was tracked down and arrested investigators say because of a distinctive trait: His height.

At 6 feet, 6 inches tall, Nicholas Landolfi stood out, even though he wore a hat, dark glasses and covered a tattoo on his arm in attempts to conceal his identity, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Landolfi is accused of walking into the bank armed with a handgun at about 3:54 a.m. Monday and demanding cash before fleeing.

Two hours later, the alleged bank robber was in handcuffs, investigators said.

Deputies worked with members of the VCSO’s new Crime Center and were able to match Landolfi’s height and physical description to his photo in the state’s driver and vehicle information database, investigators said.

Witnesses at the Deltona Boulevard bank also noted Landolfi because he was “shaking and acting nervous, like he was going to rob the business,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Dubbed “Volusia County’s tallest bank robber” on its Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office said Landolfi was arrested at his home without incident.

He was charged with armed robbery, grand theft and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was being held at the Volusia County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $205,000.
