Teacher accused of ripping lollipop out of student's mouth still has certificate

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County teacher is still on the job, despite allegations she hit students and in one case, hurt a student’s teeth by yanking a lollipop out of her mouth.

The math teacher was accused of damaging a student’s dental work at Wolf Lake Middle School.

According to a state complaint, the lollipop incident happened nearly three years ago.

The district suspended her for four days, but the Department of Education has not taken any action against her teaching certificate.

State officials said Linda Kalter wanted to settle, but the negotiations failed, so now Kalter is taking the case to court.

“As long as they are handling that the way they need to handle that, then it’s all right,” said Orange County resident Terence Walthour.

District officials said Kalter was only suspended after the lollipop and hitting allegations surfaced, but they said they would not comment on personnel issues.

Kalter denied the allegations in the complaint and is fighting them with an attorney,
