Teacher's assistant accused of using driver's ed car as her own crashes at doughnut shop

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Marion County School Board members on Tuesday will decide the fate of a school employee who is accused of taking home driver’s education vehicles and treating them as if they were her own.

Officials said teacher’s assistant Malisa Stocker used the cars without permission to get herself  to and from work

.

District spokesman Kevin Christian said she claimed to be driving the cars to the district repair depot, but that wasn’t the case.

“She was driving it there, parking it and walking across the street to go home,” he said.

Officials said the situation came to light when she got into a minor crash while stopping at Dunkin' Donuts.

"You're not supposed to have the car. You're not supposed to be using the car for personal reasons, and you're certainly not supposed to be using the car to run personal errands, like a run to the local donut shop,” said Christian.

No one was hurt but officials said Stocker failed to report the crash to police or her supervisors.

"Instead of taking responsibility for damaging the car she wasn't supposed to have in the first place, she tried to pass that accident off on a student at that school,” Christian said.

Officials said she also falsified an accident report, claiming the student hit a tree.

Stocker was placed on leave.
