Teen dies from apparent drowning in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. — A teen is dead from an apparent drowning in a Polk County lake, authorities said.

Eduardo Gonzalez, 14, had been fishing and swimming at Crystal Lake in Lakeland Saturday afternoon, investigators said.

Gonzalez’s father reported him missing later that night when he didn't come home.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports that the teen's body was discovered Sunday morning in about eight feet of water, about 28 feet from the shore.

An autopsy will determine an official cause of death, but authorities say it appears to be drowning.
