Thieves burglarize Brevard County home while family sleeps

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — Two accused thieves are on the run after surveillance video caught them stealing from a Brevard County home while the family slept.

Two children were sleeping on the couches as the two men grabbed items from the home, the surveillance video showed.

The burglary happened on Matthew Drive in Rockledge Saturday morning, deputies said.

“I think they're very dangerous. The police told me that we were very lucky nobody woke up,” said the homeowner, Al Vera.

Vera only realized what happened as he went out to his vehicle to drive his wife to work Saturday morning. He said he noticed noticed someone had been in the glove compartment.

Vera said the thieves took a .38 special revolver from the vehicle along with credit cards. A cellphone was also missing from the home, Vera said.

"Oh man, I was, I was in shock. My jaw dropped when I saw that guy come in and walking around my kids and so close to my door," Vera told Channel 9's Melonie Holt.

“Hope they get caught, because somebody was going to get hurt. His grandkids were laying on the couch,” said neighbor Benjie Cox.

Cox told Eyewitness News that he believes the burglars may have also tried to break into his home.
