Thieves steal packages in St. Cloud neighborhood, residents say

Thieves are swiping holiday deliveries from doorsteps in St. Cloud, residents say.
The thefts are happening in the New Whaley Creek community near the Turnpike and U.S. 1-92.
A resident took to a Facebook community page to describe one of the alleged incidents.
The post claimed a thief had ripped open a package and left with whatever was inside.
The family was in a hospital with their daughter and the item was the daughter’s Christmas gift.
Not long after, residents discovered there were other victims in the neighborhood.
“These are people’s gifts. For them to be missing, you know, it is a heartbreak,” said resident Bobby Drain.
St. Cloud police said there have been 37 911 calls from residents from Oct. 13 to Nov. 15, but only two were for missing items and packages.
Police said many times, they’ll be aware of package theft problems in communities, but residents don’t report it.
Drain said he hoped more people start taking more action during the holiday season.
“I mean, we pay for these items. For them, you know, to be missing, you never want that,” he said.
