Titusville residents claim neighbors without running water dump human waste in yard

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — The home hasn’t had running water since 2013, according to city officials in Titusville. The water was shut off after nonpayment. There’s also a lien on the home for more than $3,000 in unpaid water bills.

The home is on Alpine Lane just north of Highway 50.

Residents told Channel 9’s Jeff Deal they think human waste is causing the neighborhood to stink.

“We can’t sit out here when the weather is hot and the odor comes over,” said neighbor Wyonetta Jarvis.

The owner of the home in question died a few years ago.

Eyewitness News stopped by the home Tuesday and Christian Gomez, who lives inside the home, denied the neighbor’s claims.

"You guys don't have human waste flowing out into the yard?" asked Deal.

"No sir. Not at all,” Gomez said.

"What do you do with it then?" asked Deal.

"We just flush it down with rain water,” Gomez said.

Gomez said he’s been living in the home since the water was shut off three years ago.

“We’re still alive,” Gomez said.

A spokesperson with the city told Eyewitness News living without running water would be a code violation, but it wasn’t aware of those types of complaints.

Code enforcement was at the home in February for a complaint about overgrowth and junk in the yard, but the inspector said the complaint was unfounded.

Despite neighbors saying they complained, the city said there have been no citations issued at the home in the past four years.
