Tractor-trailer hits overpass, knocks concrete onto roadway

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A crash involving a tractor-trailer is slowing down traffic Monday afternoon on I-95 in Titusville.

Authorities said the top of the tractor-trailer hit an overpass near Fox Lake Road and knocked concrete off the overpass. However, authorities said the driver didn't stop. The tractor-trailer was carrying a backhoe when the crash happened.

Steven Avant, 35, was later stopped near State Road 50, troopers said.

There was not much damage to the backhoe after it struck the bridge, but it knocked concrete chunks off the overpass and forced traffic on I-95 southbound to slow down.

Fire crews are working to clean it up. The Fox Lake Road overpass is closed.

Troopers said Avant was charge with leaving the scene of a crash and exceeding the maximum height on a load.
