Trash truck crashes into Orlando home, narrowly misses couple inside

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County couple was forced from their home after a garbage truck smashed into the house Thursday morning.

Investigators said the impact of the crash made the entire house shift and did so much damage it had to be condemned.

The man who lived there said he heard the truck crash through his wall and when he looked up, the cab and its driver were sitting five feet away from him.

He said he was standing in the kitchen when Andrew Modeste, 39, crashed into his house with a Waste Pro Management garbage truck. He said is wife was in another room when the accident happened.

State troopers said Modeste was trying to make a right turn onto Lake Margaret Drive when his door opened. As he tried to close it, investigators said he lost control and plowed through the wall.

Channel 9 looked into the driver's history, but in a statement Waste Pro said, "We understand that one of our trucks was involved in a crash that damaged a structure. We are investigating this accident and until we understand this situation it would not be appropriate to comment."

No one was seriously injured, not even the workers who were on the back of the truck when it crashed.

"I'm just glad nobody got hurt. That's the main thing, nobody got hurt," said the man who lived in the house.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Troopers said charges are pending against Modeste.

The couple had been renting the home for the last year.
