Residents evacuated after tree falls through assisted living facility's roof

MARION COUNTY, Fla — Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the Hampton Manor Assisted Living Facility in Belleview around 10:33 Saturday night for a tree that had fallen through the roof.

The tree landed on the facility’s dining area and broke the complex’s fire suppression system, causing water pipes to bust and flood parts of the facility, according to firefighters.

Firefighters and Hampton Manor staff evacuated 52 residents due to structural damage, electrical and water issues to other parts of the facility. None of the residents or staff suffered any injures.

"Our staff did a phenomenal job and also the first responders. The fire rescue and the sheriff's department did an absolutely great job," said Peder Johnson of Hampton Manor Assisted Living.

Many of the residents were taken to another Hampton Manor facility in the area, and a few residents were picked up by family members.

It is estimated it will take about a week for the facility to make repairs.
