Troopers find injured man who fled from fatal Kissimmee I-4 crash

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla.,None — Troopers said they found an injured man who fled from a crash on Interstate 4 that left one person dead and three others injured on Monday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they found Manuel Fernandez Mata in serious condition near Celebration Avenue and US Highway 192, not far from the crash. The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. at the westbound ramp of I-4 to US Highway 192.

Troopers said the driver of the SUV, carrying four passengers, was traveling westbound on I-4 and attempted to exit onto US 192 when he lost control and the vehicle overturned before slamming into the guardrail. FHP said the driver was ejected.

Fire rescue immediately determined the driver, a 25-year-old male whose name has not been released, was dead at the scene of the crash. Two female passengers, 22-year-old Iliana Velasquez and 20-year-old Zulika Diaz, both suffered minor injuries and were taken to Celebration Hospital and are in stable condition, according to FHP.

Officials said 23-year-old Yonathan Marmaolejos was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center and is in critical condition.

Investigators were searching for a fourth passenger after they spotted a trail of blood leading from the crash across the interstate.

Troopers still do not know why Fernandez Mata fled the scene of the crash.  He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers said Mata fled the scene and they want to know why. Troopers said as soon as he is able to talk, they want answers.

Troopers are still investigating why the driver lost control of the vehicle. According to an FHP report, speed was a factor. However, troopers have to wait for toxicology results to see if the driver had been drinking.
