Troopers: Men angered by election stole street, stop signs

ORLANDO, Fla. — Troopers said three men were so angry that President Barack Obama won re-election,  they went to the Parramore area of Orlando and stole stop signs and street signs.

WFTV obtained Florida Highway Patrol dashboard camera video that shows the men driving around with the signs piled in the back of their truck.

The signs were piled up in the back of the pickup as troopers pulled the truck over.

In the video a stop sign and two road signs, still attached to their poles, can be seen the  back of the truck.

"Where are you coming from tonight?" a trooper can be heard asking the men.

"Right downtown. We were watching the election," answered driver Jacob Kupp.

According to troopers, Kupp, and two friends, Austin Bowen and David Hatmaker, all in their early 20's, watched the election returns come in at the Stagger Inn bar in downtown Orlando.

"They were angry over the outcome of the presidential election," said Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the trio drove to Parramore yelling out racial slurs and uprooting six road signs, including two stop signs.

Troopers said the missing signs created a safety issue.

"[It was] extremely dangerous. We cannot even stress how dangerous. This is not a joke. This is not a game," said Montes.

All three men have been charged with grand theft.

Kupp faces another charge.

"How much have you had to drink tonight?" a trooper is heard asking Kupp.

"Not much. A couple beers," responded Kupp.

Troopers said Kupp's blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. He's been charged with driving under the influence.
