Troopers search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators are looking for the driver who they said left the scene after hitting and killing a man in Orange County just before 3 a.m. Friday.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the driver was heading southbound in the center lane on US 441, south of Wakulla Way.

The pedestrian was standing on the sidewalk at the bus stop on the west shoulder of US 441, and ran east across the southbound lanes, troopers said.

The driver meanwhile had just switched into the inside lane, and struck the man, according to FHP.

The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Troopers are looking for a newer model red Nissan Altima that they said will have side mirror and significant front bumper damage.

The crash remains under investigation.
