Troopers search for hit-and-run driver; motorcyclist hospitalized

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers are searching for a hit-and-run driver who they said left the scene of a motorcycle crash in Brevard County on Tuesday.

A witness who wished to remain anonymous told WFTV he saw a silver car stop behind a school bus right before the motorcycle slammed into the back of the car along U.S. 1 in Mims.

"He came up and run right into the back of the silver car and he just like flew over the handlebars," he said.

The motorcyclist was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne with serious injuries, according to troopers. The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive.

Troopers hope to interview the biker about the crash, but so far the biker's injuries have prevented that.

The driver of the silver car will now be charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, even though he or she may not have been at fault for the crash, troopers said.
