Troopers: Woman fatally strikes pedestrian, returns to scene 45 minutes later

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 24-year-old woman fatally struck a 52-year-old man early Monday in Orange County's Holden Heights neighborhood, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Nyasha Powell was traveling north on South Orange Blossom Trail at 39th Street in a Dodge Dart shortly after midnight when Denny Weaver, who was standing on a median, walked in front of the oncoming car, Sgt. Kim Montes said.

The car struck Weaver, killing him, and Powell left the crash scene before returning 45 minutes later, Montes said.

Investigators said charges are pending against Powell.

The crash remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
