UCF football, Nike unveil 2016 uniforms

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Central Florida football program and Nike announced new uniforms coming to the team for the 2016 season.

UCF and Nike first partnered in 2010 and made a second change in 2013. Those uniforms lasted through last season. The coming season will give the Knights 64 different uniform combinations.

Nike officials said research drew inspiration that respected UCF’s history, location, mascots, former players and the program's mantras: #UCFast, UCFierce and #RiseandConquer.

"I want our guys to feel good about what they're coming out of the tunnel wearing on Saturdays. I think it's important. It gives you some confidence. It makes you feel good, something you can be proud of when you're sporting the school's colors,” UCF head coach Scott Frost said.

Nike said the three key ingredients for the uniforms revolved around knights and Pegasus, the university’s two mascots, and aerospace because of the nearby Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. %

"The unique thing for UCF is where it is and how the school is set up. So we really rally around that -- just being in Orlando, the connection to the space program, (the) mascot and the Pegasus (university logo). Those are a few very cool things to look at with UCF,” Nike football senior graphic designer Josh Iverson said.

The jerseys are comprised of four colors: black, white, anthracite and pewter. Names will be on the backs of each player's jersey for the first time since 2004. The phrase “Rise and conquer” will be on the neckline and the Pegasus logo is featured on both sleeves.

Pants will feature the same four colors as the jerseys. Helmets will have the same colors as well, but gold will replace black. A double-edged sword splits the helmet down the middle.
