UCF sorority holds fundraiser to pay for new police dog

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Central Florida Police Department is about to get a new, four-legged colleague, thanks to one of the school’s sororities.

A narcotics K9 on the force just retired, so Thursday the Tri-Delta sorority is stepping up with a big fundraiser to come up with the $8,000 it will cost for a new drug dog.

UCF already has two bomb dogs, and Max, a narcotics dog.

UCF police said four would help police the huge campus, its venues and protect the high-profile guests who visit the campus.

The school used police dogs to assist surrounding communities where students live and Tri-Delta members hope people from those neighborhoods come out to the fundraiser barbeque to pitch in too.

The sorority’s fundraiser starts at 5 Thursday evening.
