UCF student arrested after being accused of hacking computer to change his grade

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 21-year-old University of Central Florida student was arrested Wednesday after one of his professors accused him of hacking into the school computer system to change his grade.

Sami Ammar bonded out of the Orange County Jail later in the day but has been banned from campus after the incident.

UCF police said that on May 4, at about 11:30 p.m., Ammar and another student allegedly walked into a math sciences classroom to use one of the computers to change his grade from an F to a B.

The investigation into the change started with Ammar’s professor was notified by the school’s computer system that his class roster had been submitted a second time.

The professor told investigators that Ammar only turned in one assignment during the semester.

UCF student Sonide Dentious said the allegations were upsetting for several reasons.

“Don’t take the easy way out and do something like that,” Dentious said. “There are some people working as hard as they can to excel.”

Ammar is facing a felony charge of accessing a computer/electronic device with knowledge that such action is unauthorized.
