Updated: Schools announce closures for Tropical Storm Hermine

CENTRAL FLORIDA — Officials from several school districts across Central Florida were preparing for Hurricane Hermine Thursday.

The Flagler County School District announced its schools on Friday will be closed.

The Sumter County and Lake County school districts also closed schools Friday.

Volusia County Schools were open Thursday, but all after-school events and athletic activities were canceled. The cancellation includes indoor and outdoor activities. All Volusia County schools will be closed on Friday, school officials tweeted.

While Seminole County schools remained open, the district said absences would be excused for students who didn't go to school Friday.

"We respect a parent's decisino to have their child stay home if they choose," the district said on its Twitter page.

Marion County schools announced on Thursday that its schools and after school activities will be closed on Friday.

Osceola County said on it's website, "The Osceola County School District will continue to closely monitor weather conditions with Osceola County Emergency Management," but did not specify any cancelations.

The Brevard County School District has canceled Thursday all athletic and extra-curricular events and practices. Indoor activities will proceed as usual unless the school principal made a different announcement.
