Volunteers hand out food to hundreds of families in Parramore

PARRAMORE, Fla. — Volunteers handed out canned goods and fresh vegetables to hundreds of struggling families in the Parramore community Thursday at the Shiloh Baptist Church.

The pastor said people had been lining up since about 8 a.m. Thursday and within the first hour, about 100 people moved through the line.

Amerigroup Florida helps provide health care in the state, and donated $5,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank. That money has gone toward the event.

A big component of the drive is all of the fresh fruits and vegetables people are going home with.

Greg Higgerson, of Second Harvest, said, "People who are low income are really challenged when it comes to affording healthy food. And, so, by providing some of that here today we're having a real impact on community health."
