Volusia County man accused of murdering wife and children, builds shrine in jail cell

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A photo of a man's wife and her children, who he is accused of killing, was found inside his cell.

Luis Toledo is still months away from trial for his alleged killing of Yessenia Suarez and her two children, Michael and Yessenia.

The family of the victims said the shrine found in Toledo's cell says a lot about him.

Officers said they found a cross made from a t-shirt, pictures of the victim's with a red dot on each person, a clipping of Toledo in court with a red dot and red marks through the judge's name. Officers described an item as a cast Toledo pulled off of his hand and appeared to have painted eyes and a nose on.

Officers said the items were arranged in a ritualistic way, possibly Santeria.

WFTV's legal analyst said the items will most likely not be used in trial, despite that they were taken into evidence.

Toledo has been disciplined for hiding a razor blade, making an unauthorized call to a family member and yelling to inmates about a corrections officer listening to inmate's phone calls during his 2 ½ years in Volusia County jail.

There is still no date set for his trial.
