Volusia County teachers could be getting merit-based raises

Teachers in Volusia County could soon be getting a raise thanks to new state funding.

Monday, the school board said it plans to give faculty raises based on their evaluations last year.

Those who were rated effective will be given a raise of just over $1,800.

Those who were rated "highly effective" will be given a raise of more than $2,200.

The plan still has to be accepted by the teacher's union.
