Lockdown lifted at Wekiva High School after report of student with weapon

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Wekiva High School was placed on lockdown for several hours Thursday due to a report of a student with a weapon on campus.

Orange County deputies said a student overheard a conversation between two other students discussing a possible gun inside the school, but after four hours of searching deputies did not find a weapon.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a school resource officer on campus responded to a report of a possible student with a firearm just before 7:30 a.m. They did a full sweep of the school to search for weapons as a precaution.

Orange County Public Schools said the lockdown was lifted before noon.

A video shared by a parent appears to show armed deputies inside the school questioning kids with their hands up.

Officials said the student was taken into custody, questioned, and released and the lockdown was lifted.
