Man accused of assaulting women at stores in Winter Haven arrested

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A 67-year-old man was arrested in Winter Haven after police said he posed as a doctor and then stalked women around stores.

Investigators said in at least one case, Mario Agusto-Medina forcefully planted a kiss on a woman.

The women were all in their 50s and some of them had to fight him off.

Police said the woman he forcibly kissed was in a motorized scooter and struggles to get him off her.

Surveillance video from a Walmart showed Agusto-Medina walking down aisles until he started to follow a woman.

Winter Haven Police Chief Gary Hester said Agusto-Medina sweet-talked the women, and told them he’s a Lakeland cardiologist.

“He attempted with this last to try and get her to leave Walmart immediately with him. He also gave her some story about how he had recently lost his wife, and she looked just like his wife,” Hester said.

Police said one victim used a shopping cart to keep him away.

They believe he also approached other woman at a Bealls Outlet in Winter Haven.

A tip led to Agusto-Medina’s arrest.

He was charged with aggravated stalking and abuse of a disabled adult.
