Wet 'n Wild worker in critical condition after near-drowning

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Wet 'n Wild team member is in critical condition Tuesday after becoming trapped underwater while cleaning one of the pools, Channel 9 has learned.

Another worker called for help as he pulled the trapped employee out of the water, according to Orlando police.

The call came in just after 10 a.m. and paramedics arrived shortly after, officials said.

"Kind of scary," said tourist Carla Marques. "Makes you think twice about letting your kids go on certain rides, for sure."

The injured man, whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital, where he’s listed in critical but stable condition, officials said.

Guests told WFTV they noticed the water slide Disco H2O and a slide next to it were closed Tuesday. Officials wouldn't say if that was related to the employee's accident.

The incident has been turned over to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for further investigation.
