‘Why her?': Family grief stricken after woman caring for injured husband killed in crash

WILDWOOD, Fla. — Investigators are still searching for the person they said ran from a vehicle that caused a fatal crash as it was being chased by police.

The family of the woman who was killed is calling for the second suspect to turn himself in.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Anthony Brown, the suspect who is in custody, was behind the wheel of the white BMW on Tuesday when he caused the crash. His passenger fled the scene and is being sought, troopers said.

Laura Price’s family members said they have already been dealing with a lot, and now they have to cope with the loss of their loved one.

“Out of all the cars out there, why her car?” sad the victim’s sister-in-law, Mary Price. “Just when we thought they were coming to a good point with everything, this happened.”

Laura Price was heading home from work when her SUV was hit and flipped on its roof on State Road 44.

"When we first got the news, my brother called and said he couldn't get a hold of his wife and he was nervous that something was wrong,” Mary Price said.

Troopers said the BMW blew through a stop sign and caused a chain-reaction crash.

The impact flipped Laura Price's Honda SUV.

“The troopers came to the door and my brother said, ‘If this is bad news, I’m probably going to need help.’ So they called an ambulance and told him she had passed in the accident,” Mary Price said.

She said she doesn’t understand how the situation escalated.

"It angers you because they say it was for a traffic violation, and we are trying not to pass judgment at this point, because we don't have all the information, but what traffic violation could have been worth this?” she said.

Laura Price was a wife, a mother to three children in their 20s and the breadwinner for the family.

She was forced into that role after her husband, Jack, was injured on the job.

"In October, she almost lost my brother. He had a traumatic brain injury,” said Mary Price. “He was in a coma, he was on a ventilator. Somehow he survived and she has been by his side the whole time."

Mary Price said the family was finally reaching a point of stability.

"They were just to the point where she could start going back to work for a couple of hours a day. Her son was home with my brother and then this happened,” she said.

Brown is facing charges of felony murder and driving with a revoked license.

Police have not identified the man being sought.

The Price family has set up a GoFundMe to help with the cost of funeral expenses.
