MELBOURNE, Fla. - In an effort to keep drivers safe, authorities in Melbourne have contracted a company to trap wild boars before they cause a major accident, Channel 9 has learned.
Boars living off Sarno Road near Wickham are being removed from the area due to growing concern that they'll cause traffic accidents when crossing the roads.
A couple years ago, a 400-pound boar totaled two vehicles in the area.
Trapper James Dean told Channel 9 he's caught 17 wild boars since June 2, but he thinks there's more than double that amount living in the nearby woods.
On Monday, Dean already trapped four wild boar. The largest he's bagged so far was a 140-pound boar a couple weeks ago.
