Windermere ninja robbery may be related to others across south Florida

WINDERMERE, Fla. — Channel 9 has learned three robbers dressed as ninjas who targeted a Windermere mansion last week may be responsible for a half-dozen home invasions targeting high-end neighborhoods.

Wednesday's home invasion and robbery was one of several that law enforcement has been investigating recently.

Authorities in Windermere are working with the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and a task force out of Collier County in south Florida in their investigation.

The agencies believe the Windermere robbery, in which the homeowners were tied up, is related to a group accused of similar violent robberies in south Florida.

"Everyone is on pins and needles just wondering who is going to get hit next," said Windermere resident Julie Celan. "It's really scary."

In Naples, five multimillion-dollar homes have been raided since February, Channel 9 learned.

Sources told WFTV the robberies are likely being committed by the same group of men.

"This is our only priority, and this is what we're working on every day," said Lt. John Morrisseau of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
