Woman accused of stealing thousands from cancer care group

PALM BAY, Fla. — Palm Bay police said they arrested a woman accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from a cancer care group.

Mary Snyder, 45, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Cancer Care Center of Brevard in Palm Bay.

According to police, Snyder was the longtime treasurer of a cancer care group called Oncology Managers of Florida.

A new president who took over the group this year was reviewing the books and noticed missing money, police said. The group said that only one person had access to the missing cash, so police were alerted.

Detectives believe the amount taken is about $300,000, but the group's bank is still reviewing records that go back several years.

Police said the thefts have been going on since July 2006. They said that because of the statute of limitations, Snyder can only be charged for acts that occurred beginning in 2009, which is about $50,000.

Snyder faces felony charges, involving scheming to defraud and grand theft, according to police.

Police said the warrant for her arrest carries a $500,000 bail amount.

According to police, Snyder was a board member for approximately eight years.
