LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges after several horses in her care were found to be malnourished and neglected.
Deputies received a tip about the neglect at the Kings Cove Horse Rescue on Huff Road on July 12.
They found several horses that appeared to be malnourished, and the owner, Angel King, was given a plan to improve the animals’ health, deputies said.
When deputies went back to the facility on Friday, they said they found that the horses were still in bad condition.
“They were rescue horses and had appropriate feed at that time. This time, she did not (provide the feed),” said Sgt. James Vachon, of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. “They were all in severely bad health and they had to be taken right then.”
Deputies couldn’t say how she got all the horses.
A veterinarian with Lake County Animal Services examined the horses and said seven were well below an acceptable health rating.
The horses were taken to a horse fostering organization.
King was later arrested on seven counts of animal cruelty and was jailed on a $35,000 bond.
There were still horses on the property on Tuesday.
Deputies said they believe some other owners are boarding there and that the horses are in good health.
