Woman convicted of drowning puppy accused of owning new dog

EDGEWATER, Fla. — Tiny animal lawn ornaments decorate the outside of the Edgewater home of Cynthia Anderson and her boyfriend.

The couple also lives there with a 3-year-old pit bull names Baby Girl.

The dog is the reason Anderson will be heading back to jail.

Police said Anderson frowned a 3-week-old puppy inside an airport bathroom in 2015, when the airline would not allow her to bring the animal on the plane.

Nebraska court records show she was convicted of animal cruelty and told she could not own or live with any pets.

But this week, Edgewater police said they saw Anderson with a dog at her home.

They were tipped off by an anonymous caller and some pictures on Facebook allegedly showing Anderson with the dog.

Volusia County doesn’t have a database that track convicted animal abusers, but state lawmakers are considering a registry so that animals don’t end up in the wrong hands.

The Halifax Humane Society said it keeps track of all abused animals it sees and their owners, and shared that information with police.

Anderson could spend five years in prison if it’s found she violated her probation.
