Troopers identify driver killed by hit-and-run suspect

Troopers have released the identity of a woman who was killed when her car was struck head-on by an alleged hit-and-run driver Friday evening.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said 63-year-old Beatriz Gonzalez died in the crash on Ficquette Road in the Windermere area around 6:30 p.m.

According to troopers, a Honda pickup truck driven by Nathan Hartman, 25, of Windermere, ran into the rear of a car sitting at a traffic light on County Road 535 at Summerport Village Parkway. The accident pushed the car forward, damaging two more cars.
"All of a sudden 'whack' in the back, a fellow hit us and drove us into this vehicle in front of us, hitting the one in front of him. He must have never touched his brakes," said one driver whose car was damaged.

FHP said Hartman then drove away from the scene without stopping. According to troopers, he fled down County Road 535 and turned onto Ficquette Road, where he crashed head-on into Gonzalez's car.

Hartman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Troopers said he was arrested at the hospital around 11 p.m. and later booked into the Orange County Jail.

Hartman was charged with DUI manslaughter, three counts of DUI causing property damage and leaving the scene of a crash. He bonded out of jail Saturday morning.
