Still no arrests after Marion County woman found shot to death in car

BELLEVIEW, Fla. — Residents of a Marion County community were shocked to learn a 28-year-old woman was found shot to death in a car early Wednesday morning.

Officers said Candice Lee Ambrose, 29, was found in the car on Southeast 85th Court at about 3 a.m. in Belleview.

"Fortunately, it's unusual for Marion County and we're glad to say that, but our major crimes is prepared for this, our evidence unit, so we've got the staff to handle the workload," said Capt. James Pogue of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

When Ambrose's friend learned of the death, she didn’t believe it at first.

"I was like, 'Yeah, no way,' so I made a phone call and found out it was true," said friend Susan Wilson.

Detectives said the spent the day talking to witnesses and searching the area for clues.

In the meantime, Wilson said she has no idea why Ambrose was even in the area she was found.

"Nobody can figure out what the hell she was doing here," said Wilson.

Channel 9 looked into Ambrose's past and discovered she's has been arrested numerous times on drug charges, battery and burglary.

Friends said despite her record she was a great person who was taking care of her sick grandfather. They're hoping investigators can find the evidence they need to track down a suspect in the case.

"Nobody deserves to die, but especially that way," said Wilson.

Deputies said Ambrose's death is not connected to the shooting death of a Citra man about 25 miles away.
