Woman gets life in prison for shooting man she thought to be burglar

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a man she thought had burglarized her home.

The Florida Times-Union reports that Karla Davis, 38, was sentenced Tuesday. She was convicted in December of second-degree murder.

Prosecutors said Davis found her home burglarized in February 2014 and noticed two vehicles near the end of her street. Thinking the vehicles were involved in the burglary, she opened fire and struck Ian Klinedinst, 22, in the head.

Police said Klinedinst was waiting in the car with his infant son and 2-year-old daughter for his fiancé and a friend.

Davis was arrested four days later.
