Woman says Fitbit gave her 2nd-degree burns

MILWAUKEE — A Wisconsin woman said a fitness tracker caught fire while she was wearing it on her wrist.

Dina Mitchell received a Fitbit Flex 2 for her birthday two weeks ago.

Mitchell said she was wearing the device while she was reading a book when it burst into flames, leaving her with second-degree burns.

"There was plastic melting to my skin as I was trying to quickly rip it off," she said. "And I threw it onto the ground."

Mitchell contacted Fitbit the day it happened, and the company offered her a full refund.

Fitbit said this is the first time a customer has reported such an incident.
