Police: Woman confesses to stealing Halloween decorations in Winter Garden

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — A woman accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in Halloween decorations from Winter Garden residents faced a judge Friday morning.

Darci Lyn Cortes, 40, was booked into jail Thursday night on a number of burglary and theft charges.

A resident said he followed Cortes and blocked her car in then called police, who arrived shortly after. Investigators said Cortes agreed to go to the police station with an officer where she admitted to taking the decorations.

Residents told Channel 9 that they lost hundreds of dollars' worth of decorations in the thefts, including decorations that used LED lighting and other electronics.

"I mean, honestly, I thought we were driving them crazy at one time calling.  It is Halloween decorations. I didn't want it to be that big of a deal," said resident Christopher Colon. "It is kind of cool how it came together like this and we are all pretty proud to live in here."

Cortes was being held in the Orange County Jail.
