Woman wakes up to masked Sanford man raping her, police say

SANFORD, Fla. — A woman told Sanford police that she woke up Saturday to a man raping her while wearing a mask and latex gloves.

Police arrested Joshua Corbett, 24, on Saturday. He’s been charged with sexual battery with a deadly weapon, armed burglary, destroying or tampering with a physical evidence, violation of probation.

The woman told police he covered her nose and mouth while he sexually battered her.

The woman told police that Corbett threatened to cut her throat if she did not listen to him and that he forced her to stay in the bathroom until he left.

She told police she believed the man who raped her was Corbett because he was a distant acquaintance who had previously made unwanted sexual advances toward her.

When investigators searched Corbett's home on Elizabeth Street in Volusia County, they found some of the clothes he wore during the alleged rape and latex gloves in a trash can, investigators said.

Eyewitness News found on the Department of Corrections website that Corbett is on probation until July 2018. He stole nearly $1,000 in lottery tickets in April, Volusia County deputies said.
