Brevard Co. woman's death considered suspicious

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. - The body of a woman who was reported missing on Wednesday was found in shrubs in Satellite Beach Friday, authorities said.

Charmaine Ochs, 43, was last seen Wednesday night after leaving her Satellite Beach home to pick up laundry. She was found dead Friday along State Road A1A and Berkeley Street, investigators said.

Police are calling the death suspicious, but they haven't said why.

Authorities said someone walking their dog discovered Ochs' body, which was across the street from her apartment.

Family members said they were devastated after deputies told them she was dead.

"I'm worried about her mom, my wife," said Ochs' stepfather, Dwayne Abraham. "We're going to need some counseling, because she is going to need it."

Once on the scene, deputies put up crime tape and began examining the body and processing the scene for evidence.

So far, investigators said they're not sure how Ochs died, but they said they can tell she was injured in a way that might have caused her death, but they're not saying much more about that injury.

"We're just not sure of the mechanism or exactly how that occurred," said Todd Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators also went to Ochs' apartment complex, where they canvassed the area and looked at surveillance video.

Investigators found the victim's car still parked in her apartment complex.

Family members said they don't know for sure what happened to Ochs, but they have their suspicions.

"There have been some problems, and we been telling her about a certain individual, that she needed to get away from him," said Abraham.
