Zimmerman's defense says state attorney's office broke rules of discovery

SANFORD, Fla. — Late Monday afternoon, the defense for George Zimmerman filed a motion with the court asking that the state attorney's office be punished for breaking the rules of discovery.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin early last year in Sanford.  He has maintained his innocence, saying he only shot in self-defense.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara is arguing that the state knew witness No. 8 made false statements during depositions, but never said anything.

Zimmerman's trial is scheduled to start in June.
