Man holds gun to girlfriend's head while feeding baby, deputies say

Kevin Smith

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 29-year-old man is accused of holding a gun to his girlfriend's head while she fed their 2-week-old baby, deputies said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 1900 block of Ryan Road in St. Augustine.

Deputies said the 22-year-old victim was feeding her infant when Kevin Smith came into the bedroom, upset because she was feeding the infant breast milk from another woman.

Smith tried to take the infant away from the victim, who wouldn't give the baby to him, deputies said. Smith held the victim down on the bed and held a gun to her head and against her mouth, deputies said.

The victim's mother arrived at the home and heard screaming. Deputies said the mother saw Smith on top of her daughter, trying to roll her over so he could get the baby.

Smith went outside to his truck. The victim's mother told deputies that she took her daughter and the baby outside and put them in her husband's truck.

Smith was arrested and charged with battery, child neglect and obstructing justice.
