Man killed, another injured in Polk County shooting

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies in Polk County are searching for the gunmen who opened fire on two men early Sunday, killing one of them and injuring the other.

Emergency crews and deputies responded around 4:30 a.m. to reports of gunshots on Swiss Drive in Lakeland.

Once on scene, deputies found a 23-year-old black male who had been shot to death in the roadway.

Deputies learned the victim and his friend were returning home from a night out in Ybor City. When they approached the driveway of the deceased victim's home, a dark-colored car blocked them in and two gunmen got out. Investigators said the gunmen opened fire on the men and fled the scene.

Officials identified the deceased victim as Sean Williamson. Williamson's 29-year-old friend also suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Deputies have not released a description of the suspects.
