18-Year-Old Dies In Crash With 18-Wheeler On SR-528

ORLANDO, Fla. —

For the second day in a row, a fatal crash shut down the Beachline in Orange County. The Beachline was closed westbound Wednesday for over four hours near Orlando International Airport (see map).

An 18-wheel semi and a Mitsubishi Montero SUV collided, killing one person and critically injuring another. The crash also caused a major backup.

Drivers were forced off at the Tradeport exit during the road closure, but the road was reopened by 1:30pm.

The crash happened around 9:30 Wednesday morning. Investigators think the driver of the SUV, 18-year-old Vladimy Dortelus of Orlando, lost control of the wheel as he was entering the Beachline at the Tradeport onramp. He crossed over all the way to the inside lane where he was hit by an 18-wheeler.

The driver of that tractor-trailer, 41-year-old Jim Bob Carr, tried to stop. The skid marks are at least 30 feet long.

The driver of the SUV, Vladimy Dortelus, died and his female passenger, 21-year-old Imonaise Dortelus of Orlando, was hospitalized in critical condition.

"Unfortunately, it is a toll road that has an exit to get off at Tradeport," explained Sgt. Barb Jones, Orlando Police Department. "Obviously, when you have a volume of traffic you're trying to move to a smaller artery, it is going to cause a backup. Right now, I don't know how long the road is going to be closed down."

Crews also had to clean up diesel fuel that spilled on the roadway.
