Abandoned, Starved Horse Makes Amazing Comeback

What a difference a year makes. A horse found abandoned and dying of starvation last year has made a full recovery.

Eyewitness news first reported last year about Moe, an emaciated horse that was rescued from a Bithlo farm. The horse could barely stand up a year ago, but now he has completely recovered and has been renamed Sunny, for his sunny spirit.

"He was basically skin and bones. He had no muscle at all. He had no fat," said Paula Fulton, who adopted the horse.

What a difference a year makes. Twelve months and 250 gained pounds later, Sunny has made an amazing recovery.

She gave him medicine, lots of care and lots of food. At one point, she fed him five times a day.

"He had all kinds of different hay, different things. He ate a lot of grass, but this horse never stopped eating. Even to this day, he would eat and eat and eat," Fulton said.

Few thought Sunny would even make it. Now he's thriving.

"He's a nut, I swear to God. He's adorable. Now he's gonna be nice and clean, though. Isn't that great?" Fulton said. "He has a bit of an attitude sometimes."

It's that attitude that made Fulton think Moe deserved a name change.

"So, as I saw his bright and sunny behavior, I decided I wanted to call him Sunny," she said.

So, Sunny it was and the future looks pretty bright for the horse, thanks to lots of food, some time and a little bit of love.

The horse could still gain some 50 pounds. The SPCA is still looking for the original owner.
