BUNNELL, Fla. —
After a week of heavy rainfall, the list of fires considered active by the Division of Forestry in Flagler County has dropped to three and the number of firefighters has also dropped.
The Espanola fire, Opossum Lane and Roy Road fires are the only three that remain out of more than 53 fires that were active at one point in the past two months. The Espanola fire, located north of SR-100 and about 6 miles west of US-1, is still 70-percent contained. Whereas the Opossum Lane fire west of CR-13 and the Roy Road fire located in a remote area of Northwest Flagler County are both contained.
"Flagler County is extremely grateful for all the assistance the county received to fight the fires," said County Administrator Craig Coffey. "We appreciate all the effort and coordination by all the agencies working together to save lives and property."
The Division of Forestry Gold Team is now down to about 40 individuals due to a decrease in wildfires. At one point, two weeks ago, there were more than 220 firefighters. The team has relocated from the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center to the Division headquarters on US-1 north of Bunnell.
